Călin Georgescu, an independent candidate in the presidential elections, came to the public's attention not only due to his passage to the second round, but also through accusations related to the use of "troll farms" and controversial financing. On Wednesday evening, after the declassification of documents by the CSAT, the identity of a major financial supporter of his campaign was revealed: Bogdan Peşchir, an entrepreneur and investor known online under the pseudonym "bogpr".
According to the declassified documents, Peşchir donated over 1 million euros to promote Călin Georgescu on TikTok. Between October 24 and November 24, 2024, he made payments worth $381,000, according to confirmations provided by TikTok representatives. These donations were directed to content creators involved in promoting the candidate, even after the official end of the electoral campaign - a possible violation of both TikTok's regulations and Romanian electoral law.
Despite these revelations, Georgescu reported 0 lei to the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) for his campaign budget, claiming that he had not spent anything.
Bogdan Peşchir is an enigmatic figure, known mainly for his activity on TikTok. Although he did not reveal his real identity for a long time, Peşchir has attracted attention through generous donations to manelists and influencers, the total amounts exceeding 2 million euros. He lives in a luxurious villa in Braşov, but prefers a discreet lifestyle, avoiding opulence.
In addition to his TikTok activities, Peşchir is the owner of DIGITAL ON RAMP SOLUTIONS SRL, a company founded in 2021. However, CSAT documents suggest that his standard of living does not match the company's declared income. In the past, he has been involved in other cryptocurrency-related companies, including GLOBAYA FINTECH SRL and BITXATM TECHNOLOGY SRL, alongside Gabriel Prodănescu, a figure also associated with various financial scandals.
Peşchir has been involved in cryptocurrency fraud scandals, including a trial in Romania over the first Bitcoin fraud. Online discussion forums, such as BitcoinTalk, contain complaints and details of his involvement in dubious businesses, in collaboration with partners such as Gabriel Prodănescu.
This information has fueled speculation that Georgescu's campaign was financed through cryptocurrency, a method that is difficult to trace and not officially reported.
On TikTok, after his identity was revealed, Peşchir posted messages justifying his support for Călin Georgescu. He stated that it was a voluntary gesture, inspired by examples such as Elon Musk's support for Donald Trump in the US. He also denounced intimidation and slander, threatening legal action against those who violated his privacy or defamed him.
Bogdan Peşchir's disclosure of Călin Georgescu's campaign financing raises serious questions about the transparency and legality of the electoral process in Romania. His involvement in a controversial area such as cryptocurrencies and massive donations through TikTok suggest a complex network of influence, which will continue to be investigated. In this context, the legitimacy of Georgescu's campaign remains questionable, and public opinion awaits clarification from the competent authorities.
